Meet Our Staff
Robert Thompson — Minister
Robert Thompson has been pastor of First Baptist Church Ashland since September, 1992. A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, Robert is a graduate of Barton (formerly Atlantic Christian College) in Wilson, N.C. He received his Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky in 1973. He has done Clinical Pastoral Education in Lynchburg, Virginia as well as studied at the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies in Jacksonville, Florida.
Robert and his wife, Kathy, have been married for twenty eight years. Kathy is a first grade school teacher in addition to being active in the life and work of First Baptist Church. They have two sons.

Jim Townsend — Associate Minister
Dr. Jim Townsend was called as FBC Ashland’s Associate Pastor in 2001. Prior to coming to FBC, Jim served as a bi-vocational pastor, combining ministry at Indian View Baptist Church in King William, Virginia and his former profession as a chiropractor. Jim was born in New Hampshire and raised in a preacher’s home in New England. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois, a masters degree from Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, and a doctorate from Life University, Atlanta, Georgia.
He has been married for twenty three years to his wife, Marcie, and has two daughters.

Fred Horn — Minister of Music and Family Enrichment
Fred Horn is a native of Ashland, KY. He graduated with a Bachelors of Music Education from Morehead State University, a Masters of Church Music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and is completing his thesis for the Doctorate of Worship Studies from the Robert Webber Institute of Worship Studies. Fred has served churches in Kentucky, Indiana and Virginia. He came to First Baptist in 1999.
He has been married to his wife, Lisa, since 1987. They have one daughter.

Barbara Hollowell — Minister of Youth and Single Adults
Barbara Hollowell has been serving at First Baptist Church of Ashland since 2003.She is native of Columbus, MS. Barbara has a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Mississippi University for Women and a Master's Degree in Religious Education, specialized in Youth Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Barbara has served churches in Mississippi, Texas, and Virginia.
