  • Children/Youth Space Committee - The Children/Youth Space Committee met Tuesday, May 15th to read and review each of the responses to the questionaire. Your responses have been delivered to Huff Morris Architects where they will be reviewed. Diagrammatic plans will be prepared for presentation to the committee. The church will have an opportunity to see and comment on the proposed plans.

  • Recognizing Our Graduates - First Baptist would like to recognize our Graduates of 2012. Please turn your graduate information intot he church office. We would like to post the graduate's photo on our bulletin board. The photo will be returned.

  • Church Office Closed May 28-May 30. The church office will be closed May 28 for the Memorial Day holiday. We will also be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 29 & May 30 due to roofing repairs that necessitates that all electric power be shut off.

  • Hispanic Ministry - We are currently in the exploration phase regarding the possibility of a Hispanic ministry here in Ashland. In the very near future we hope to partner with Fernando Mangieri from Kingsland Baptist Church in Chester in this effort. If you have friends neighbors, co-workers or employees whose mother-tongue is Spanish, please give any contact information you may have on these persons to Jim Townsend or Jeannie Garris. Also, please join us in prayer regarding this possible ministry.

  • 2012 FBC Mission Opportunities -   
  1. Send a team of 8 FBC members to Central America to help drill a clean water well with Living Water International (www.water.cc). This trip will most likely be in the fall. Exact dates and location TBD. The cost of this trip is $1700./person.
  2. Send a team of 15 FBC members to Kentucky to help with repairs to damage caused by recent tornados. Exact dates and location TBD. The total cost of this trip is expected to be $2500 or less.
  3. Send our youth to Passport – July 9-14 at Averett Univ. in Danville, VA. Cost:  $330/youth.
  4. Hold another meal packing program with Stop Hunger Now organization. (www.stophungernow.org)  Exact date in fall TBD.  We expect to pack 10,000 meals @.25 cents/ meal = $2500.
  5. The Missions Committee also proposes that our church participate with the following local mission efforts:
    1. Ashland Service Project Committee
    2. Winterization of homes in the Ashland area
    3. Continued organization of Red Cross disaster preparedness team
    4. CARITAS Furniture Bank pod

  • Served/Serving In the Armed Forces? We are producing a video to be shown on Memorial Day honoring our church members who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces.  Help us by submitting pictures of service people in uniform including branch, dates served and indicate if they served in a war. Submit pictures to the church office or to Fred Horn electronically or by actual photo by May 20th.  Actual photos will be returned.  Thanks for your help.

  • The Church By-Laws Have Been Updated and voted on by the church body at the quarterly business meeting on May 6, 2012. To view a copy of the new By-Laws, click here. To view the changes made to the By-Laws, click here.

  • It’s Time for Strawberry Faire and once again FBC will be participating and raising funds for missions.  Strawberry Faire will be June 2th.  HOMEMADE pound cakes and volunteers are needed to make this event successful.   Pound cakes (cakes need to be delivered to the church by 10:00 AM, Friday, June 1th).  Please consider volunteering for this event.  We need booth workers, workers to prep on Friday at church and workers to help setup and break down at the faire.  It is lots of fun and a wonderful outreach to the Ashland committee and beyond!  If you would  like to volunteer to help in any way, please call Becky Dixon 262-7232. 

  • Office Volunteers Needed - Volunteers are needed to answer phones and do other small jobs on Tuesday afternoon (1:00 - 4:00), Wednesday and Friday mornings (9:00 to Noon). Also on Thursday mornings for a short time. If you are interested, please call the church office.
  • VBS Volunteers Needed - Today there will be a sign-up table for VBS Volunteers, located in the area outside the sanctuary.   Drop by the table, see our curriculum, and have a chat with Barbara Massey about how you can help.  We need lots of adults to make this a fun learning experience for our preschoolers and elementary children.  Will you sign up?


  • “A Check-Up from the Neck Up” Managing Stress to Keep Health - The month of May is Mental Health Month.  In cooperation with the Hanover Mental Health Association, the Bon Secours Hospital Corporation, and our church are sponsoring a seminar titled, “Managing Stress to Keep Healthy.”  Attend and hear how our response to Stress can negatively affect our physical and emotional good health.  Learn coping mechanisms and stress reduction exercises to effectively manage your Stress.  The date is May 17 in the evening in our fellowship hall.  Keep this date available!

  • FBC Columbarium - We will soon be building a columbarium in the Rev. Ryland and Alde Reamy Memorial Garden for cremains interment. For the months of April and May we are having a pre-sale of $750 per niche, after that the cost will be $1,000 or more. If you looking for a special place for your loved one or yourself, see the display in the foyer.

  • Food Pantry Update - Do you get coupons? If you have coupons for soup, potatoes, Hamburger Helper, canned meats or fruits that you’re not using, the Food Pantry can use them to stretch its shopping dollars. Please place them in a sealed baggie or envelope and drop in the collection bins. All donations of money and food are appreciated. Call Carolyn Bivens at 550-3836 or email chb81046@comcast.net.

  • Children's Extended Session Volunteers Needed - We are trying to increase our bank of volunteers to do the important job of caring for the youngest of our congregation during the 11:00 AM worship hour. This is the care of infants through four-year-olds and is called extended session. We have a fine group of volunteers who faithfully serve, and we do appreciate their faithfulness. We need more volunteers to extend our rotation time. Would you consider serving in this capacity? A short volunteer form is available in the focus, just complete and return to Barbara Massey.

  • Printer Cartridges Wanted - The Exploring Christianity Sunday School Class is still collecting empty inkjet, laser printer cartridges and used cell phones as a fundraiser. Please drop off items in the recycle box in the commons area. Questions? Call Wilma McBride at 752-2306.


  • Church Equipment Use - If you need to borrow equipment from church (i.e. chairs, tables,coolers etc).
    Fill out a equipment use form prior to your need. You can get the form from the church office.

  • Transportation Ministry – As a ministry of FBC, we have drivers who are willing to drive people to doctor's visits or church functions. If you need a ride, please call the church office a couple of days ahead of time and we will do our best to match you with an available driver.
